Sir Prague x Frantisek Jungwirt
We recently chatted with Czech glass artist František Jungvirt about his limited-edition glass pieces made in collaboration with Sir Prague. In the conversation below, he shares his inspirations, creative process, and the stunning works he created for our hotel alongside designer Linda Boronkay.
Hi František! Tell us how you first began working with glass?
I’m from Vimperk, a small town in southern Bohemia that once had the rest is history. From there I studied the field in high school in Třeboň, and then developed my design skills at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague
Where can we usually find you these days, in your studio, or elsewhere?
Every day unfolds a little differently. In my Košíře studio in Prague 5, I sketch ideas, meet with clients, and let new concepts take shape. Between visiting makers to bring these visions to life and stopping by finishing workshops, I try to carve out moments to paint, where I often get most of my reflective time in.
What inspired the colors and shapes of the vases created for Sir Prague?
I drew inspiration from the soul of Sir Prague for these limited-edition vases, capturing its iconic architecture, where Art Nouveau meets Cubism, and the hotel’s textures and muted tones. Each vase, object, and diffuser carries a piece of this world—a reflection of the hotel’s unique spirit.
How did your collaboration with Linda Boronkay influence the designs?
Working with Linda Boronkay, we shaped the vases to echo the period and mood of the hotel, letting its atmosphere guide our choice of colors. Our goal was for each piece to capture the warmth, harmony, and beauty of the interiors…something guests could take home as a memory. I was inspired by Linda Boronkay’s vision, where symbolism and emotion flow effortlessly, bringing both her interiors and our vases to life.
Perhaps, most importantly, where do you find inspiration in Prague?
Prague has always inspired me; its streets, architecture, and the people I meet here shape the way I see the world. I am deeply fascinated by Czech glassmaking traditions, from Bohemian crystal to engraved and cut glass, and enamel-painted techniques. I love bringing these centuries-old methods into my own work, combining them with playful shapes, hand-painted details, and hot-glass motifs. Visiting places like the UMPRUM Museum always sparks new ideas, too.
